Mariah didn't want to sing for Corden's Carpool Karaoke

Mariah Carey was the first ever musical artist to appear on James Corden's smash hit segment Carpool Karaoke, but it almost didn't go off as planned!
“She came out and said, ‘I’m not singing today.’ And she went, ‘We’ll just drive around and have a chat,'" James recalled in an interview with The Howard Stern Show. He responded to her, “Right, but it’s ‘Carpool Karaoke.’ So without that… And then I thought, I just have to jump into it. Even if this bit is just me singing to Mariah Carey, it’s still on the show. It may not be the recurring bit we hope it is, but it’s still probably on the show.”
Right at the start of the segment when James put on the music, Mariah said, “I’m not singing today, I was up all night.” In the end, she sang along for a bit.
