Groups will generally try to promote in Japan and China since the market there is bigger and more money can be made. So sometimes they release their Korean songs in Japanese or Mandarin. Or just release new songs in Japanese or Mandarin.

Yes! So in K-pop, it's not unusual to see groups promote in Japan and China outside of Korea. SNSD has an extensive japanese discography, and imo, it's even better than their korean one.
