Just a few examples, but why have so many people done reaction videos/videos about its release etc, when more successful albums such as 1989 or 25 didn't even receive the same sort of reaction? Plus none of lemonade is on Spotify, youtube or apple music, so all of these people had to spend 17.99 to buy the album.
Because a lot of the GP absolutely loves and worships Beyoncé and her music. Despite being very elusive, she just has /that/ appeal to all types of people, ironically.
Oh but as for Lemonade specifically it's because it truly is an incredible album. Also the buzz surrounding it caught the interest of a lot of people who may not have been fans prior to it (the same way that ST did).

A true musical legend, elusive yet universally loved
Not to pee on everyone's parade but I truly believe this album is more hyperbole than actual substance. With the visuals, it's a great project but sonically it isn't even Bey's best, let alone THE best. Also, this isn't coming from some Beyonce hater - I have all of her albums bar this one. I think it is an exceptional marketing project - it has everyone talking after all. But this album is rooted in business rather than creativity. The whole "Did Jay cheat on Bey???" / "who is Becky?" scandal is so blatantly fabricated in order to create buzz and curiosity - there's even talk of Jay releasing a response album.
Anyway, I loved Beyonce - especially between 2008-2014 - and I still quite like her but My God she is becoming too overrated. She releases a concept album and people act like it is an original idea - erm no. She "surprise" releases her album - it is dubbed "the Beyonce". I just think she's treated as some kind of God (she is clearly very talented) when really there are far better artists than her who just don't have as great a marketing/PR/management team.
