Ellie Goulding just had one of the biggest hits of the decade though. And, while Mariah's last hit was in 2009 (#Beautiful was done so wrong
), Ellie has been getting hit after hit throughout the current decade.
I agree that Mariah
should have established herself as a legacy touring act, but not many of her peers have. In the pop and r&b field, other than Madonna, who else has, actually? It's hard for older artists, especially ones that were always singers and not performers.
