I don't understand why do some countries recognise it while some don't ?

The Armenian Genocide is an extremely sensitive issue for the Turkish government and to acknowledge it risks straining relations with that country. I *think* the official party line is that there was a period of civil unrest during the First World War and that many people died all over the Ottoman Empire, including the Armenians - who they argue gave as good as they got. Though I don't know what kind of fair fight existed when the Armenian intellectual elite were rounded up and slaughtered, and then the Armenian people were marched out to the desert, beaten, tortured, humiliated and murdered in the hundreds of thousands...
The Ottoman Interior Minister actually attempted to collect a list of Armenians who had bought insurance policies with American companies, saying, "they are practically all dead now and have no heirs left to collect the money."
