Residents of Sugar Land are upset about a bronze “selfie statue” that the city recently installed in Town Square Plaza.
The statue depicts two girls taking a selfie in front of City Hall. It’s part of a 10-piece collection donated to the city by Sugar Land resident Sandy Levin.
Despite the green light two years ago, many residents aren’t happy with the new art installation. Some are under the impression that taxpayer money paid for the statue, and others are less than enamored with its aesthetic qualities.
But others were actually happy with the new statue.
the last lady has a point. people are up in arms about this because selfies are ~a stupid teen thing~ but decades from now this will be cool for kids to look at
Imagine thousands of years from now, future civilizations will want to know what our society like back then. This statue perfectly represents that. A bit too honest. but it's the truth, we were obsessed with selfies, look at my profile pic lol.
Then we'll see TV programs making entire Episodes wondering what the mysterious object was and what kind of mysterious powers it had, (The iPhone will be long forgotten by then) and they will claim that aliens made it.
So yeah, I think this statue was a good idea, until someone creates a robot hand that takes selfies for you.
