And if you listen to Formation, you can tell the isnpiration came from people attacking her entire family, for all of the things that makes them black. People ridiculed her daughter's hair, and her husband's facial features, all while claiming that she bleaches and wants to be a white woman. Beyoncé embracing her culture is one of the most vulnerable and authentic things she's done in her career. Also, Lemonade is supposed to be about what black women go through in relationships, and many black men do leave their black wives for white women. Its been going on forever.

I think we should all know by now that Bey's weakness is in the singles department, her strengths are touring and albums.

None of this negates any of my statements. It may very well have an impact on some black women (albeit short lived), that doesn't negate the fact that the focus of her album was marital problems. And that is what people took to the most.

I agree, but if she keeps this up for her future eras they are simply not going to be remembered in say 40 years time unless each one has a massive impact.

Madonna knows this the best, she always pushes one huge single each era, even in her most anti-mainstream releases (e.g. Frozen) because she knows that along with the album being remembered, a massive single to go along with it will only increase its legacy.

Sis what has this got to do with anything I wrote? I never said she was ashamed of being black? Pro-Black anthem Formation didn't peak with the Super Bowl performance. It peaked when she started singing about Jay Z.

She got enough hits, both from DC era and her solo career. She's legend status now. She'll be fine. What does she gain from more hit singles? Her legacy is already cemented. Other 'artists' should worry about that.

But she has sold over 100M singles and her latest one is about to jump a spot to #8 on iTunes. I wouldn't particularly call it a "weakness" if she simply doesn't care to try.

DrIL sold 2M off of one televised performance. 3x plat w/ streams.
Partition, Flawless... both sold over 1M copies.
every single from 4 besides Countdown sold over 1M copies as well

that's besides the point. He's not saying she can't get one or doesn't need one period. She just doesn't depend on them for her career to keep it pushing.

You basically said that she only created black music because she wanted the success and acclaim. Addressing "Becky With The Good Hair" was righteous of Bey, because it explores the self-hate of many black men who leave their black wives for white women.

She cared enough to make an hour long film and spend many months filming it. It seems like a waste to just abandon the era without even pushing/promoting one single. The GP doesn't care nearly as much about albums as they do singles, so if she pushed say Freedom it could've made Lemonade her most remembered album in the future.

I totally agree with you, never claimed otherwise. I just see people dismissing the importance of hit singles in general in this thread and they're basically one of the main reasons she even got in this place.
