there's nothing wrong with it. people on the internet try too hard to stand out by being unnecessarily negative all the time, and "edgy" is a good word to describe it. there's an attitude online that being cynical and critical makes you cool, and people try too hard to emulate that image. why do people have to get so bitter about every adjective used often? really.

It wasn't even about the word necessarily. It was about people going overboard with it. I agree that there are people who go out of their way and try too hard just to "stand out" and appear "cool" because they are overly-cynical or have ideals that fall short of popular support. But using this word has gotten out of hand and is now being manipulated to describe
anyone who deviates even slightly from the norm. I mean, tryhards are annoying, I get it. But now we have an ironic situation where the people who are calling others out for being "edgy" are now the tryhards, because they're putting too much effort into searching for a way to use the term. A major reason for people doing this is to "stand out" and appear "cool." Sound familiar? It's the hypocrisy that killed the trend.
And for the record, the only time I've been called edgy is today in this thread. So no, it isn't coming from a place of bitterness.
