Stars Dance is literally a soulless mess full of Rihanna demos and no soul or effort and it is enjoyable and full of bops. I think I hate revival because she tried to have personality and it didn't work because she's simply too boring

revival is fine, its a bunch of demo shopping but so are all the other pop tarts (ariana demo mooghan etc) but what sets it apart is selenas taste for solid songs. She has an ear for a solid pop song that doesn't necessarily go for whats popular. Revival has a magnificent intro, Good For You is a fantastic sultry pbrnb esque song that none of her peers could pull off, sober's instrumentals could be right off a purity ring album etc. She makes great choices, sure it's not a grandiose statement or an innovative masterpiece but whos asking for that from selena gomez? She pushes her own boundaries and puts out music of better quality than her peers, which sets her above IMO
