Poll: Does the term 'SJW' trivialize progressive views?

Are the people who use this term simply afraid of progressive views?

I believe that the goal is to portray those people as outside the mainstream and as people who are fighting just to fight. It trivializes the goals and participants (complex homophobia, racism, sexism, transphobia, etc)

Why are people using this term? I think because at some level they are afraid. And also others may use it because they are ignorant and find the use of the term as a way to be part of a group (this group is of course the result of constructing an opposition - sjw). Still others may use it in fun to point out how passionate people are about something that the observer considers trivial.

Thoughts?

No, SJWs are just sad people who have no control over their sad boring lives so they feel the need to control others. They have no real interaction with other people outside of social media so they seek validation from people like themselves by constantly attacking people for the minuscule of things, regardless of their age and gender. 12 yo girl with braids being the perfect example.

In addition these people are just glorified bullies who don't want equality but retribution, it's their way of getting back at people who've bullied them in school. They are a pathetic and probably fat version of hs jocks. Both super obnoxious but at least with jocks you'd wanna have sex if given the chance..

I always thought that the term Social Justice Warrior was started by people who hated others with progressive terms, so they used it ironically to try and discredit their opinions?

I mean, it's the perfect way to hinder progress, anyone who tries to speak up on these topics will get labeled a SJW and therefore perceived as a basement dwelling lunatic who has nothing better to do than to attack people on the Internet for dumb things.

I mean you can clearly see the privilege in some people when they bitch about SJWs

Not in itself, but conservatives use the term far too widely these days against anyone claiming any type of discrimination, especially against feminists and trans folks who seem to be the main enemy atm.

nevermind progressive views, I think the term 'sjw' has gotten overused to the point that it means nothing anymore. semantic saturation.

people will label anybody that has a slightly arguably stupid opinion (and I'm not talking about progressive views, I'm talking about any views/views in general) an 'sjw'. people will also label anybody who considers feelings a bit more in their argument than facts an 'sjw'. it trivialises the term and just makes the conversation a bit… dumber.
people also call others 'sjw's if their opinion is different in any way, which is honestly childlike

It seems like it's starting to become that way, Tumblr ruined everything.. those SJWs are slowly turning the world against LGBT people and racial issues... What a shame.

Yes, sometimes people exaggerate, but now people scream "SJW!!1!1!" at everyone that calls out racism/sexism/etc. It's really annoying.

People will literally scream "SJW!" on here, at any argument that affects marginalized groups other than cis white gay men.

SJWs started off great. They addressed issues in a non-bad manner and things were looking great. Then Tumblr happened. 2236236 genders appeared and now they call anyone out because you don't believe in being attracted to rainbows and leprechauns.

SJW are extremist and not allies to LGBT groups, POC lives, or feminism. They don't care about the movements nearly as much as they care to attack people on Tumblr and Reddit who post anything they slightly feel is offensive or going against their beliefs. They've done more harm then good for the most part and turned things like sexuality and gender identity into a parody of itself.

If you read the tumblr comments on anything involving heterosexuality or typical male/female roles you'll see how off these people are.
