Honestly I really can't fault Kelly Clarksons casual outfits on tour, she just threw on stuff she had owned and looks relatable. It's a mess but she's not really trying to ham it up.
Now Britney's on the other hand... I'm sure they put way too much thought into them and they still look a mess for how much time they put into them... too many unnecessary fishnets, gloves tacky extensions, sheer mesh, beddazled daisy dukes, too tight pants, tops that make her look pudgy, the leotards are unflattering, chunky boots... all put together by some art student.
She needs more flattering things, leotards that fit and give her a good shape and hide her flaws, some nude underlining so we don't see her spilling on to the sides when things are too tight, invest in some sheer nude tights that will elongate her legs like Beyonce always does when she performs. The black one's Britney wears look cheap and then out of place if they don't match the outfit. The nude shiny ones keep everything in place and they look great on stage. Mariah recently got into them as well.
She had some good costumes during a while ago... go back to things like this....
Use more minidresses as well.... this would have been a PERFECT stage look, just have a good tailor fit it better on her chest so nothing will spill and add some good tights for the short bottom.
I almost think she was rebelling against her label this era, consciously not making an effort in her appearance, because this was the era she had to make a lot of compromise (she was blackmailed into recording My Life Would Suck Without You) and the imagery was very photoshopped, perfect, candy and bright esque stuff. She's said herself that she's the kinda person that will purposely gain weight if you tell her to lose weight.
