However, what I think you mean is that the opinion of many Poles on the society and surroundings is based on Catholicism and yes, I would say that's true. Even without being overly religious, they would oppose gay marriage and other stuff only super-religious in the West do. That's just the way of thinking I guess.

Um this guy has lived in London his whole life, but is Polish... he opposes abortion, divorce, gay marriage, sex before marriage, masturbation, doesn't even watch movies involving sex. I would have thought the youth, especially growing up in London, would be more open minded... I was kind of surprised :P
