Zac Efron seems to despise High School Musical more than anyone: 'F**k that guy'

It might be one of the cheesiest, cringiest and most straight-up annoying teen movies of all-time, but nobody hates High School Musical as much as its lead actor Zac Efron. Simply put, he regrets it every day, to put that he actively wishes he could go back in time and beat his teenage self up.

“I step back and look at myself and I still want to kick that guy’s ass sometimes,” he told Men’s Fitness recently. “Like, f**k that guy. He’s done some kind of cool things with some cool people, he did that one thing [Neighbours] that was funny, but I mean he’s still just that f**king kid from High School Musical.”

Earlier this year, Efron declined to take part in a celebration for the original movie’s 10th anniversary, writing on his official Twitter page that he could not make it despite having “nothing but love for the High School Musical cast and fans”. He insisted that comittments promoting Dirty Grandpa prevented him from attending, while multiple reports suggested that the real reason lay with wanting to avoid his ex-girlfriend, former co-star Vannesa Hudgens.

I mean, the reality is he's always gonna be that guy from High School Musical. He has done nothing big enough to change that.

Why are they always doing this to the shows that gave them a career? Like, I understand that you are another person now but still.

I love HSM movies but I understand he hates this character now. However they were the only movies where he doesn't end up naked

He exaggerated in his quote. It was for Men's Fitness he wanted to appeal to the straights. He didn't think the girls and gays would notice

I hate when people talk like this about the thing that made them famous. He wouldn't even be here to give an interview if it weren't for that show.

Like yeah, you're older now and HSM is a little embarrassing, but that movie is why you're who you are today. It's more embarrassing to act like you're too good for what made you.

People knew him because of HSM. He should stop complaining.

That's his fault for not knowing how to act. He could have easily transcended "the boy from Highschool Musical" but he takes crap roles and constantly delivers community theatre type performances. Nobody is ever going to take you seriously if you don't yourself.

How is HSM any worse than him basically just being the eyecandy in every movie he's in though
