No, Skrillex, just because you created the sample itself does not mean that you did not violate Hinterland's compositional copyright. That is not a valid defense. The glaring similarity of the notes and sound create at least a prima facie case that there was infringement. I think there will be a high six or low seven figure settlement for this. Bieber and his label are going to want this to go away, especially after the recent Blurred Lines case.

yes you can, if someone knowingly copies a melody it doesn't matter how many notes it is.
@ yall actually thinking that someone can win a lawsuit over a simple vocal run. Skrillex already proved that he didn't outright sample her. The vocal run isn't even exactly one-to-one the same as that girl's to begin with and I assure you she was not the first person in history to ever sing that run. It is possible that two different singers can come up with the same riff organically. It's simple af.
She's not going to win this case. This will most likely end in a settlement between the two.
I see both sides to this, her intro sounds a bit similar to Sorry's, but it's obvious that neither Skrillix or Justin Beiber have heard it and it just was a coincidence.
