Song writing isn't the end all be all, especially for groups. When you're manufactured, put together, you're at the control of your bosses. Obviously the more successful they become, the greater freedom they'll theoretically have.
Just look at the quality of production and song writers with album 2. It's less "fad, trying to be super hip lingo" and a little more in line with the themes the girls wanted to explore. They'll have to write some songs and perform live on tour, get an A&R rep or producer they're on good terms with to go to bat for them to push for it.
It was different with Destiny's Child bc that whole arrangement was done to put B on, and her dad worked out a great deal that allowed her to co-write songs and stuff.
Danity Kane, another manufactured group, had little input on their first album. Part distribution was terrible. On the second album, things were going in a similar direction but they fought for more involvement. It led to a better album and co-writings. But they also had a No. 1 album and top 10 hit going for them.
I think the girls have show an they have an interest in song writing and production. Hopefully this era will be successful enough so the powers that be will allow more creative input.
