I feel like it's a budget thing. Videos seemed like a much bigger deal before when people actually tried, so labels are probably giving less money for videos which means less effort, creativity and time put into it.

Videos where the singer is just singing in a room staring at the camera... bye.

Minimalism is on trend right now, and it typically leads to boring videos from basic artists/directors/producers that don't understand what the style actually means. Also, no Gaga videos.

No one is pushing boundaries or creating controversy aside from beyonce but her music suck causing the hype to die fast.

I feel like certain pop girls are trying to create vids that are visually pretty so they can get hype/gif-sets on tumblr but they just end up dull, boring and uninspired. (Kiss It Better, every video from the Dangerous Woman era etc)
