In the age of social media, there isn't really any need to sign to a major label. You can be indie, be the boss of yourself and the controller of your own music. As well as having a decent following and earning enough from touring.
What benefit is there from signing to a label in which they loan you money for your album, then which you then HAVE TO PAY BACK afterwards? You won't be able to put out the music you want and you will just end up becoming a puppet.
