In a Norwegian site I was having a discussion and this person insisted Cruz could be the next nominee come 2020 because he was runnerup before Trump booted ha out
I tried saying that he's too much of a zealot, no one likes him even in his party and the GOP might have gotten Trump but they were always aiming for something more moderate (at least in interviews).
He replied that it can't be someone like Rubio since Cruz has a loyal following (runnerup) and can build on that.
In the end I just said that if GOP wins then maaaybe it could become more Tea Partyish and Cruz stands a chance, but ain't no way that it will be an easy road for him to be the nominee like the person suggested.
