It's pretty much what everyone expected it to be in concept, but some disappointing hardware specs and the 3G provider is unfortunate. The big black bars look kind of silly, but it makes sense when you think about having to hold it landscape and portrait style. The price points are the most surprising announcement to me.
I can't see myself taking this out of the house very often though, so it's a no buy for now.
I think this is one of things you're gonna have to go to the Apple Store and have it in your hands to realize how cool it is, because right now we're only seeing pictures and it just looks like an iPod touch.
Lord, what an unfortunate name, though. iPad. Gotta be kidding me.
I can't take it seriously, especially when he's holding it! I think I'll stick with my iPod touch. And honestly, iPad sounds like someone trying to say iPod with a hideous accent.
Worst name ever.
By naming it iPad, it seemingly has become separated from the Mac line, thus classifying it as less a computer and more a giant iPod.
Should have been MacPad at the very least
Or they could call it the Mac Touch or iMac? Apple better enjoy their peak while they can; the iPhone will be nothing in a few years once the kinks are worked out of the Google Nexus One, which will be available on more than just one wireless network. They can only rely on the iPod + iTunes service for so long; until there is another revolution in the way we listen to music. Then, Apple will be done.
Also, for a second there when they announced the iBook Store I forgot that the iBook was the name for their laptops not too long ago. Nice name recycling job!

I can't see iTunes losing dominance anytime soon. It's definitely the easiest experience out of all MP3 stores (amazonmp3 is just a hot mess). iTunes will be the dominant mp3 store for at least the next decade. It's like the dominance of Microsoft. They came up with the software that edged out over the other early computer developers, and they've been the dominant PC software for almost 2 decades now. That doesn't look like it's going to change drastically anytime soon either.
Even iTablet would have been better, iPad? Eh...sounds cheap and also why no forward facing camera to video chat? I think I'll wait for the iPad 3GS! LOL. Which will be out in like 6 months, or right in time for 4th quarter of 2010.
