Welcome castaways to the first tiebreaker of the season. Right now, Navyofbadgals & Satan will duel it out for a place in the game. Winner stays. Loser heads over to Redemption Island to prepare for their first Redemption Island duel in R10.
The Beach

Satan |
Navyofbadgals - Teen Beach Movie Cast - Surf Crazy
Quote:
Dylan - 8 - Lyrically this is obviously on topic but I feel this fails in capturing the ambiance of the beach. I think of a more relaxed atmosphere when I think of the beach. This is so in your face bubblegum pop (which makes sense since this is from a musical after all) and that distracts from what people go to the beach to do... relax. By no means a bad entry though.

Brian - 8 - The lyrics fit the theme, but that’s about as far as it goes. Remove them and you’re left with an uptempo pop track which doesn’t capture the essence of the beach for me.
Quote:
Element - 10 - This was really great! It captured the feeling of the beach perfectly, and discussed a diverse mix of activities that you might experience there.
Satan - Jan & Dean - Ride The Wild Surf
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - Lyrically, this is clearly on topic. You also did very well with the ambiance aspect of this round. Beaches are places for people to chill and this instrumental has that classic retro beach vibe to it. It may be a little bit too uptempo at some points but it's overall a really nice entry in my opinion.
Quote:
Brian - 9.5 - A tiny bit too upbeat for me, but the lyrics and mellow vibe hit the nail on the head for a beach setting in my opinion.
Quote:
Element - 8 - This entry seemed a bit limited to just surfing the ocean, and not the full experience of the beach. While the atmosphere was good, it was also lacking the energy of your opponent's entry.

Winner:
Satan - 8.83
Congratulations Satan. You are still in the regular game. It was a very tight win, but you will duel wesleywalrus in the regular results show later today.
Newest Redemption Island Inhabitant:
Navyofbadgals - 8.67
Navyofbadgals, you are not eliminated from the game just yet. You are now on Redempton Island with Lucky#17. This was a very close duel, but Satan came out on top. Whether Yvess' scores would have made a difference is another story, but I can only wait so long for rates. You will duel Lucky#17 and whoever is eliminated next Tribal Council for a spot in our final duel. I know I originally said next round was the final duel, but I lied! There is one more duel after the three way duel you'll be a part of next round. Someone will win that duel and engage in the actual final duel with the eliminated player of R10. The winner of THAT duel will be back in the game, if that makes any sense at all. Either way, re-entry is only two entries away for you so make sure to send in a top notch entry for the upcoming duel.
Yvess won't be judging this round or at least I assume so. I'm currently out and about but I will do results when I get home in a few hours. See you then!

Welcome castaways to your 9th results show! Results will be revealed in a duel-by-duel format until a tribe reaches 4 wins aka enough to win the round.
After I reveal the duels, I will post the usual final results post though you will already know who won the round by then.
The tribe with 3 or less wins will head to Tribal Council where they will vote out a member.
With that said, let's get the duels started...
Duel #1
The Beach

Satan - Jan & Dean - Ride The Wild Surf

wesleywalrus - The Beach Boys - Kokomo
Quote:
Dylan - 10 - This is exactly what I would picture along with the beach. People go to the beach to chill and have a good time. This song fits that both lyrically and with its instrumental which is tropical but also really soothing in its own way. Very nice pick!
Quote:
Brian - 10 - Perfect. Beach lyrics and the production is actually mellow and relaxed, exactly what the beach is about. Good job.

Element - 9 - Beach Boys are obviously a go-to for this theme. I think that this song is more suited for ~vacations~ instead of specifically ~the beach~. It still has some good lyrics about the experience though.

Oop at Family Feud + Survivor results and The Color Game entries reveal all in tha same hour
Yay wesley
Kinda nervous for mine, I don't really know what to expect
edit: Yeah you should add a dot or something at the end of each collapse tag so they can be opened. Even though it's not hard to just count up the scores and find out that way

Duel #2
The Gym
holyground |
thecptz |
holyground - Fort Minor - Remember The Name
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - This song gets me pumped so I think it would work well with exercising. Personally, I don't listen to serious music when I exercise but I know a lot of people do so good job. Cool route you took.
Quote:
Brian - 10 - Wowww, this was THE prep song before games, and for a reason. Making me nostalgic. The lyrics and production just energize you. Perfect!
Quote:
Element – 9.5 – While this doesn’t lyrically appear to be a gym song on the surface, it absolutely captures the concepts of determination, willpower, and strength that you need to have while working out. I could see many people with this on their gym playlist.
thecptz - Salt n Pepa - Push It
Quote:
Dylan - 8.5 - This is something I would work out to but I don't think like heavy gym goers are really into this stuff as much as like zumba classes or dance exercise classes. You know what I mean? It's a little more light-hearted and a little less pumping iron material. Still makes sense for this theme though.
Quote:
Brian - 8 - It’s definitely energizing, but this sonically takes me to a club scene, rather than getting pumped up like the other entry does.
Quote:
Element – 8.5 – I could see some people in the 80s doing aerobics or something to this, but I don’t think it’s an outstanding rep of the theme.
Winner.

Duel #3
A Funeral
URBAN |
Vulnicura |
URBAN - Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men - One Sweet Day
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - This actually is a popular funeral song so I can't really argue against this. It has that happy vibe to it in the sense that they'll see their loved ones again and that's the type of thing people want to be hearing at a funeral where everyone is already sad enough. They want to feel better and this does that for sure. The instrumental is cheesy as it can be but honestly, most funeral slideshows are too.
Quote:
Brian - 8.5 - Perfect choice lyrically! Only thing bothering me is the loud production and all the belting, which I don’t think captures the ambience of a funeral as well as a slow, soft or darker production would have. Good job though obviously!
Quote:
Element – 10 – This is perfect. It captures an amazing mixture of emotion – grief from the passing but also hope that they will be reunited in eternal life once more.
Vulnicura - Sufjan Stevens - Fourth of July
Quote:
Dylan - 7 - I know you explained your interpretation to me but I have to go with what I would think on my own in order to be objective. I see this working for someone who is dealing with death but as for something that can actually be played at a funeral, I don't think so. It's a somber and haunting track but honestly, a lot of funerals play more happy songs about like being in a better place or watching over their loved ones. This is almost too dark even for a funeral. Different but doesn't fully work here.
Quote:
Brian - 8.5 - Sonically great, it is dark and mysterious which perfectly captures the essence of a funeral. The lyrics are a little weak when compared to the other entry, but still, great job!
Quote:
Element – 7.5 – This definitely hits on the concept of death, but I really couldn’t see this being played at a funeral. It’s almost too raw and personal for a more formal event like that.
