I used to obsessed with Leona when she was on X Factor and during the Spirit era, but listening back to all her music I find her tone to very whiney. Not as beautiful as some people on here think.
Beyonce
Ariana Grande
Kelly Clarkson
Nicole Scherzinger
Jojo
I can genuinely understand all the other names you wrote, brilliant singers.
Ariana though, she is fantastic but she does not compete with Leona or the others on that list. Show me a performance which competes with any of the following:
This performance is one of the best vocal performances in a VERY LONG time. And she's singing in Spanish. Nicole has never performed or talked in Spanish prior to this performance so it makes it even more amazing.
Nicole had sung in Spanish while a part of Eden's Crush.
LOL. Nicole by sooooooo far you can't even see Leona. Nicole is heaps and bounds a better vocalist than Leona will ever dream of becoming. Her sheer control is amazing and her technique is sooo good now. Leona only has the headvoice to her advantage the rest goes to Nicole.
But Leona's voice is more beautiful and elegant in my humble opinion.
I mean if I have to choose between the two to listen for the rest of my life, it would be Leona. Nicole's tone is a bit too harsh and rough.
Anywho, both can't compare to Delta Goodrem who also plays Cats in Australia

Leona sounds beautiful but weak at times (her voice gets drowned out, like in the last chorus of Run). Nicole, on the other hand, has a lot more volume and power, but her voice sounds really ugly sometimes (Club Banger Nation).
I believe both have their pros and cons; but if I had pick one, it would be Leona just because her tone is so beautiful. There is something off-putting about Nicole's voice.
If you're referring to the Cruella DeVille raspy voice, that's a stylistic choice. Nicole can do a soft voice with a pleasant tone too, but there's nothing challenging about doing that:
