Have you checked out Proscar? It's the same thing as finasteride except much cheaper and it comes in 5mg doses instead of 1 so you can cut it into quarters and only have it refilled every four months.

I've had slightly receded looking temples since I was a child but it hasn't changed since thankfully. My hair is thick and I keep my fringe down so it isn't noticeable. I'm obsessed with constantly checking it to make sure it hasn't receded anymore though. I can't ever imagine myself without hair.
