So I actually found out when I was deployed. Those who know me on here know I'm military. It wasn't my partner who gave it to me. I was sexually assaulted in another country and due to that, I went out and got tested without telling anyone I had been molested. Well being in a middle eastern country, its really hard to get STD tests and results back fast. So i wanted a month to get the results and they were positive. This was right before thanksgiving and I was devastated for a bit. I told a few of my coworkers and my boss what was going on and they decided to make sure I got back to the States as fast as possible and immediately put me on treatment. As for my partner, I told them and they weren't really fazed. They were just really sad for me. We aren't together though anymore but he is one of the strongest members of my support system
I want to thank Daddy and Jay for stepping in and taking questions as well.

Dude, I'm studying medicine and will major in order to work with people who contract STDs. There is a reason why it can't be passed through kissing, sweat or spit and that is because the virus doesn't last too much out of the person's body. Once it reaches opened air, it dies in 5 or 10 seconds. Yes, you may have an open wound on your mouth and the person you're kissing may be positive but if you open your mouth to talk to the person after the kiss or to breath, the virus will die in seconds. There are zero probabilities to contract HIV through kissing. You may have studied, but you're not a doctor or something.

**** yea I'm was so nervous. You have to add something else you would be rejected about. A lot of the guys I have meet have been great though and really supportive. I'm always nervous when it comes to sex though because Its always the fear of passing it to someone so usually the guy I'm seeing has to take initiative and action first to let me know its okay.

Also another question, for those who say they can't tell whether they have it or not, wouldn't they experience the symptoms? Like vomiting, other symptoms etc.

My first boyfriend gave It to me when I turned 18. I actually never thought about getting sick in such a major way. I kept It cute sexually but It happened with the guy I fell in love with and I actually stayed with him for another year cause I told myself It would make our bond kinda stronger.
Instead my hate grew inside and I made him suffer for what he did to me in the end. We didn't saw each other for years. 2 years ago he moved to Berlin too and I saw him around. I'm cool. Living with HIV for 8 years is changing you and your relationship to the virus.

How can you say you're studying medicine and say that you can't pass HIV through kissing when there are cases of people who have contracted HIV that way?
If someone has an open wound or broken skin, the virus can be transmitted into the blood stream of the negative partner. During kissing, the virus may not be even in contact with the air if both mouths are closed against each other, and the temperature is suitable for the virus to survive.

Honestly get tested. knowing and getting treated ASAP is better than not knowing. I was lucky when I found out as it was really easy for me to get undetectable in less than a month of finding out. Its really not a life sentence like it was in the past.

Some people get really bad flu like symptoms. Others have no symptoms. The symptoms really come out later if you make it into the AIDS phase of HIV which most people who get tested regularly never get to.

My ex-boyfriend is positive too. While we were together, my immune system has always been week and I got mono, probably from kissing him since people who have HIV and don't treat it are commonly infected with mono and when I tested, took a simple test, it turned out positive. My family was scared and my cousin and I, who happen to be involved in medicine studies and stuff, had to explain them it was probably a cross result. My boyfriend immediately left me after I told him what was going on and I repeated the test over a month later and it was negative. Days later he called me and told me he was positive. It was devastating for me at first but we worked it out for a while, I supported and still do in everything I can. He's under treatment already and he's gotten better ever since he started.

I'm sorry for you, what an awful experience you had to go through. And hey, no problem - the more the merrier.

Not everyone has the same symptoms. Depends on your body and health conditions. I for example had to go to the hospital during my breakout since we didn't know what It was. I had pain all over my body. Others just have a cold or sometimes nothing. It's a tricky bitch of an infection.

It's usually those who bottom that are more likely to contract HIV because of the fragility of the anus. Penile tissue is thick and hard for the virus to penetrate. But you should still get tested for safety!

I only had unprotected sex once and it was my first time a few years ago. It was vaginal sex though, and I know you are more likely to contact the virus through anal sex, but I'm still scared that I will find out that I am positive at some point in the future. I read that the symptoms could show even a decade after the intercourse.
Very informative thread btw. I hope it stays open.

Did you confront the person who gave you HIV? What did he or she say?

How can you talk about it as if you were a doctor?
Do you even know the probabilities to get infected through kissing? They're low. Saliva doesn't hold a huge amount of copies of the virus for a reason.

If you are a top, circumcised, you have a 5% chance. That length of exposure makes me think you would be alright but I can't answer that.

Of course they're low, but never take the risk honey xD
P.S. It's the blood in the saliva that's the problem.
