Once again, how is it a surprise when it had a release date and the album title was known?
Who even remembers that they did that though? Beyonce will always be associated with the surprise release trend~, hence why there have been countless other surprise releases these past couple of years.
God, so many people on here lose all sense when it comes to Beyoncé. A surprise comes without warning, so how can an announced album be considered a surprise release? Weren't people warned it was coming beforehand?
If anything, you could argue that Radiohead were among the few relevant artists who carried out a release which had little space of time between the announcement and release, but with all things considered, you can't say they popularised it. Simple.
Nothing ATRL hasn't pointed out many times. Delusional stans will still refuse to process the fact that a lot of artists did surprise releases before 2013. They try to make it "the first mainstream surprise release" or something
