She did read some of them before when her brothers had them, she even read the Dark Phenoix Saga and did her research online as well. I don't it's bad that she answered how she prepared to film that big scene by watching the movies.
I really liked the movie. It definitely deserves better reviews (the fact it's below X3 and the Wolverine is offensive). The whole cast were really fantastic!

There is still a lot of competiton WW from civil war. I don't think the that it's because of the meh reviews. Market is just saturated rn. Franchise will do fine and will continue with fox.
Meh reviews rarely affect openings, it's just the poor marketing and maybe not the best date to open third big superhero movie. I know it's a good weekend for Fox but given they had Deadpool, and then Disney and WB opened two big comic book movies with heroes fighting heroes maybe it would have done better with June/July release. All the studios need to give themselves some room to breathe or people will get tired.
