Discussion: Madonna & Mariah never won Grammy AOTY, but Taylor did twice

it shocks me everytime that MC had 9 major categories nominations so far, only winning 1. (BNA).
Mariah also had 9 Pop Vocal nominations, winning 1.
Mariah also had 1 producer of the year nomination, winning 0.
Also Butterfly... the fact that only the song of the same name and Honey received noms, but the album not, shows that something is wrong with people.
and of course 2006. TEOM was the best selling album of 2005, the 2nd best selling album of 2005 worldwide (7,7m copies sold according to the ifpi) and spawned one of the biggest songs in american music history, yet didnt win scratch.
also, madge has so many classic songs... rarely any won a grammy. madge gets these weird video and electronic album noms and awards which is unfair too.
the grammys care most for rock acts and males and niche acts, like taylor.
but try selling 205,000,000 albums like madge, or snatch 27 top 10 singles in 17 years like carey... 99% of all acts fail at that. not to mention, try creating alltime classic songs like vogue or all i want for christmas is you which will sell until our sun becomes a white star and devours earth. christmas wasnt even nominated. lol

ROL is an awful album besides the 2 singles Frozen & ROL ... Miseducation deserved to win AOTY & the 4/5 other Grammys the album received that yr!!
That album was really HUGE when it was out & it was such a brilliant album ... 1 of the BEST from the 90s

The Grammys and RIAA work the same way
a label has to push for recognition.
I mean a label has to submit an album/song for consideration in a certain category.. how foolish is that. like what if adele's label decides not to submit 25... when it will not get nominated no matter what critics say.

Probably the competition has something to do with that, also the passion and hard work that Taylor put in 1989, and the 1989 era, specially to be considered by the academy paid off.
The Ryan Adams cover of 1989 could have also helped her to get some rock-alternative votes.

A travesty tbh.
The Grammys use to mean something. Yes, it still holds this prestigious honor within the music industry, but there are ******** and politics in the mix that doesn't sit well with me. Success does play a part in it..but the grammys are about the creative and artistic aspect of the music..but sometimes it seems they forget that's what they are about.

But the answer is probably because one of the Recording Academy's biggest biases is toward "authenticity." Album of the Year almost always goes to the artist that voters perceive as having had the biggest hand in creating their own music. offended?  i am not offended in the least. we're all having a conversation here, i'm just pointing out that we covered the stuff you brought up before you mentioned it . and as for Outkast and Lauryn, i brought them up to support what S-paz had said about the grammy's snubbing hip hop BEFORE you mentioned it. they are the only and last two artists that the academy has honored. plus, i'm team Kendrick. the only reason why i may seem on the defensive is you legit skipped the points S-paz made.
