Christina is smart, she wanted to raise awareness and at the same time give her fans something new because we've been craving new material for a while now, and whats wrong with that? Its not like she was performing her new lead single which hit itunes right after her performance, and had 10 backup dancers in thongs doing a routine behind her. Now that would be shameless promotion.
