The statement added that radar contact was lost at 2:45 a.m. Cairo time when the aircraft was over the Mediterranean Sea at an altitude of 37,000 feet. The aircraft was about 10 miles into Egyptian airspace when it suddenly disappeared from radar. The cause is unknown.
