Are people who are homophobic or transphobic horrible people?
I don't think they are, honestly. People who go out of their way to make the lives of gay and transgender people difficult are, but I don't think people who are just uncomfortable with the idea of queerness are truly bad people. Nobody in my family would ever accept an LGBT family member, but I still love them the same. I feel like so many people you meet; sweet little old ladies, people working at the local pizza parlour cash register, a bus driver, a police officer, whatever- so many of them probably harbour anti-LGBT sentiments but are still important parts of society. I feel like trying to pressure and force individual people to be totally comfortable with every part of queerness is asking too much for society.
I wouldn't say "bad", more like ignorant. I really don't believe someone is born with those views or develop them on their own, it's how the were though and led to believe by their upbringing and environment.
It depends how you personally define a "bad person". If you judge people based on their moralistic world views, how they view civil rights movements, etc - then you won't view a transphobe/homophobe as a good person.
You can find out a lot about a person once they state their political views.

How a person is raised has a lot to do with the views/fears they have. A lot of older individuals still have the mentality given to them by their parents and remain ignorant.
And even though some of the newer generation might be homophobes/transphobes due to conservative households, a majority do not. Which is why LGBT rights are increasing at a rapid pace.
In other words, I would say no. I can't blame a person for how they were raised, but at the same time that person should educate themselves before hating a whole culture. I can only hope that the newer generation of openness and kindness makes a great influence and maybe changes people's mind in the process.

well if they are ignorant to a group or more of people then that shows they are prejudiced and most likely hold ignorant views in other areas. There is no room for hate on this earth.
