Movie: BvS fallout: Warner shakes up executive roles

The Burbank-based studio is making changes to the way it handles its DC Entertainment-centered films, giving oversight of the feature projects to a pair of executives and creating a dedicated division for the films.

With Berg and Johns, Warner Bros. is attempting to unify the disparate elements of the DC movies with a seasoned film exec and a comics veteran that together hopefully can emulate the way Marvel Studios has produced its films under the vision of president Kevin Feige.

The muted reception of BvS, from a box-office and critical point of view, is the flashpoint for the changes. The studio had high hopes for the movie, which pitted its top heroes against each other. The door was opened for director Zack Snyder to be involved in shaping the look and content of the entire DC line, which is scheduled through 2020. But critics and fans ripped into the first pic and especially Snyder for perceived missteps, including its heroes' unheroic behavior and the dark tone. BvS, which cost at least $300 million to make, has grossed less than $870 million worldwide since its March 25 release. Warners has said the film will be profitable but it was hardly the home run the studio had wanted.

And the studio is working to smooth out the third act of Suicide Squad, its big August movie from director David Ayer that could change the perception of its DC line.

Hate to break it to you henny but the only reason they have more coins is because they made more movies. Enough money to buy biased good reviews.

They didn't copy the "universe model". DC had their unified universe and the multiverse long before Marvel.

They only created this cinematic universe because Marvel had successfully pulled this off. It's a fact. Before that all their characters in the movies existed in different worlds and after Green Lantern flopped they decided to do it the Marvel way. So does every Hollywood studio now btw so nothing to be defensive about!

The DC universe have always been connected. Justice Society (Justice League) debuted in the 1940's while The Avengers wasn't a thing til the 1960's-1970's.

Sis they're basically the same. Everything DC related have always fallen under the same "universe" or "multiverse". The comics/movies/TV shows and even the video games like the Arkham series have been connected with each other

Because they didn't crossover?

MoS and Dark Knight series were just the beginning and the origin stories for the cinematic DC universe. They didn't do the Justice League before because DC divided the rights on different companies. But now the original superhero squad aka JL is happening and Marvel is SHOOK

+ Aren't The Avengers movies based on the comics anyways? Not even those comics are original
