At the Misha Collection show, Bella Hadid closed the event by leading a phalanx of all white models down the runway, strutting to Beyonce's "Formation." The lack of diversity in the show's casting is troubling on its own, but it is compounded by having the models walk to an anthem that, as Ashley Weatherford at New York magazine notes, "lyric by lyric, celebrates blackness." IMG Models posted a video to Instagram of the final moment, and commenters immediately pounced on the incongruity.

"No black models yet they're walking to a song about black empowerment?" asked one commenter. "Why are they walking to formation? not one black model or POC in sight," said another. A third chimed in with, "Not a person of colour in sight..."

Forgive me if this is incorrect, but isn't there a very low % of people of colour in Australia? The song choice is questionable, sure, but the fact that there are no black models in this one runway show isn't a bad thing per se. I mean, you wouldn't expect to see POC or even white people in a South Korean fashion show, for example.

As for the song choice - it is the current worldwide single of one of the most credible and inspirational females in the industry. I imagine that is the reason the song was chosen, even if it did end up looking entirely ridiculous with an all white runway. Maybe we should give them the benefit of the doubt.

I believe this was a publicity stunt. Like c'mon. What a pathetic bunch of people, whoever came up with this. I honestly hope they face some backlash for this.

I wouldn't be surprised if they thought Formation was just a "badass empowering bop" and didn't even pay attention to its actual meaning. I kinda think people in this industry pay very little attention to context and just go for things because they're cool or pretty.
