In the last several months, Lovato has been making the rounds singing the strongest track on Confident, the stripped-down ballad “Stone Cold,” which she says best represents her new artistic direction. She co-wrote the song with the Swedish singer-songwriter Laleh Pourkarim, who’s also worked with Adam Lambert. “Usually there are always 10-20 people involved in the process of making these big projects,” Pourkarim tells me via email. “But when me and Demi get together, we create whatever we want to create without having to compromise with anyone, and I love that about her. She is in control over her career and that is so important.” Hungry for more songs as satisfying as “Stone Cold,” Lovato has spent much of the spring in the recording studio. “By the time I go on tour, I want to be able to perform new songs,” she says. “Ideally, I would release a single next month.”
Lovato knows all of this hard work doesn’t guarantee people will ever see her as more than a former child star. And that’s okay with her. Because she sees herself as more than that. “I’m still underestimated,” she says. “I still have more things to prove — not just about the things I can do with my voice. Some people think that because I’m young, I can’t stay sober. But these are things I want to prove to myself.”

Sounds like she'd want to but it's not happening/label won't let her.
She's in that kind of mood but she's not being rational in the slightest if she thinks it's a good idea, I'd hope it's more than just her label that's telling her it's silly to release music right now.
Here for a Confident rerelease with a new single this summer That's probably the best idea tbh since I doubt the label has any intention of pushing any more singles after Stone Cold didn't do so well

I don't think releasing another single now would be a good strategy even if she's moved on from Confident. I hope this is her saying want she wants but understands isn't practical rather than something she's trying to pursue.
Cool for the Summer is still one of the strongest songs in her discography so not a total waste.
CFTS was a great lead single. It deserved way more success. It still did fine but everybody and Demi herself expected more (She confirms it in this same interview). So I think she is now convinced to try something more authentic... hopefully.
I love CFTS though..
Split with the mainstream producer/songwriter Demi! She should go back to the studio with just people like Laleh, Adam Lambert and Nick Jonas. People who know who she can be as an artist. Not cheesy radio-single manufacturing teams like Max Martin and the Wolf Cousins. One or two songs is fine, but she needs to hone her sound a lot better.

I am not against Max Martin at all. He is the best producer in the game and he can produce EVERYTHING. From Cheesy pop songs to Rock songs (like It's my life by Bon Jovi). He produced for Demi what he was asked for. She should not ditch him honestly (if he even wants to work with her again in the first place). She just needs to know what she wants to sing and Max can do wonders.
This picture slays, I love this photo shoot But to be honest, I don't think it would be smart to release a new lead single just yet, and she knows that. She should wait till the Future Now tour is over and then star a new era.
