Stewart makes you touch the reality of that line. She sheds some of her own halting mannerisms to play a woman of warmth who, with a twinkle, holds her ardor close to the vest, and the mood of quiet confidence fits the actress beautifully.
It is Kristen Stewart who is the shimmering pole star in this firmament. Her sad eyes, throaty delivery and slightly heartbreaking aura of watchfulness make Vonnie much more than beautiful; they make her interesting.
Eisenberg, riffing on Allen as has become de rigueur for the director’s leading men, and Stewart, whose lightness of touch proves a revelation and classically photogenic charms are adored by Storaro’s lens, have developed a sweet rapport after past efforts together
Eisenberg and Stewart make a fine and funny couple and both are endearing in their respective roles. And as the characters look wistfully back at their past, we in the audience look back on Allen’s past glories with a wistful little sigh of our own.
