Yeah, I've pondered this a lot and I'm convinced this is it. They want to jump on the bandwagon before it's a bandwagon (i.e. before the artist is more than like a couple singles in) so they just throw their stan cards at everyone who's currently being thrust into the hype cycle and see who sticks. Then they dump everyone who doesn't. Then the cycle repeats.
