Okay, so I've been playing X for about 2 days, I've clocked around 5 hours and I'm on my way to Route 7 following a lead about mega evolutions.

So far this game is.. Meh.

Keep in mind it's been forever since I've played a traditional Pokemon game.. But I SWEAR Diamond had a mini-map on the bottom screen. WHY doesn't X? WHY doesn't the game tell me what type the Pokemon I'm fighting is? WHY can't I check my pokedex while I'm fighting? WHY doesn't it tell me how much HP the opponent has, so I can strategically get it's health down to the red zone? WHY is this series still using some archaic "box" system to store Pokemon, with weird sub-sections dedicated to importing Pokemon into these files, taking Pokemon out of these files, etc.? WHY does the game not explain the full combat chart, not just Water > Fire > Grass? WHY do I have to google something new about this game every 5 minutes...

That's just bad game design.

Having said that, it's a relatively fun game so far. The pokes are super cute and it's charming and all. But it's all wrapped up in such a clunky, un-user friendly package..

NOT Litter Poor IT.

I don't recall any game ever telling you your opponent's type, HP, etc., letting you check things in-battle... The map comes back on the bottom screen in ORAS to some extent but the feature you're talking about is the DPPt-exlusive Poketch

All of this being available info right at the start would actually kind of ruin the storyline element of the games.

I mean, Alder? He gets his ass beat before you get to him and you can't even face him until the postgame. Iris? She's like, 12. Blue? Okay, he's a classic and all, but still. Lance? Cool guy, second fiddle to Blue and Red. Wallace? Gaaaaay. Diantha? Not bad but, like, nothing special.
