I guess she was, yes, obligated by avex trax to put something out here and there, but we never know with her. she's had that big fight with them in 2004 and after that everyone started to think that she wasn't a product from avex anymore, but yeah, she is. she's had some battles here and there after that, the last "public" one being that she wanted to get CREA back in 2009 and said she was doing things like that again, but avex probably blocked her because we never got to see that work. I prefer her being honest and saying that she wasn't completely happy with the things she put out than blaming everything but herself.
you got to a point where I always wanted to get, but everyone here and everywhere just want to point how much of a fail she is nowadays and can't get past 50k on Oricon anymore: that site only counts major japanese retails from some cities around the country. Oricon isn't a reliable source for our favorite singers anymore. they stopped counting a LOT of copies from sites and stores a while ago, including digital songs and overseas copies and that's completely ignored by stans when trying to "drag" a singer. with avex trax, the label itself isn't giving a damn **** about Oricon, because they sell through Tenso, mu-mo and other sites that aren't even counted towards Oricon its charts. they basically want fans' money and that's it. and if you think that Ayu, being the singer that she is, isn't giving avex their money, I'm sorry, but you're completely wrong.
I literally didn't know any of this, and honestly it's a relief. I know the numbers plummeted but the thought of Ayu still being profitable to Avex outside of touring is a beautiful thing. The idea of her only being a cash cow for touring numbers would be almost worse than the downfall in the first place.
Having said that I still wish her something new. Something that could genuinely make the public double-take and give them some sort of interest again, even for a moment.
I'm so glad I gave the Hikki singles a chance and time, they're actually really solid songs and I enjoy both. Manatsu no Toori Ame is a borderline masterpiece but who's counting.
The PVs are cute I guess, although the Hanataba wo Kimi ni one feels extra pointless.

I guess the general public kind of gave up on her because she's not relatable at all anymore, and refusing to be considered an idol damaged her career because japanese people just see her as a fancy singer that's too far for them to relate, someone too public that they won't see her as a normal japanese anymore, even if her lyrics are still powerful and were the first thing people used to look up on her. that was after Bold & Delicious I guess.
she's had points after that when the gp supported her a lot, but things only got worse with time. she's trying to hide herself from the public eye again and is trying some things to get along with her fans like last year's TA Tour but that won't do wonders for her anymore.
Not her being a trend-chaser with these short previews. A shame she didn't reveal anything about her music in that twitter Q&A, but we were taught what she eats for breakfast.
there's one that's included on some downloads with the tour logo (which is probably album's logo too) but I'm using a simple textless one from the pictures she posted with lyrics on instagram, I think it fits:
I was wondering and if it's true that her next project is a collabo album, what does she have from Checkmate! to Mint that would be put onto the album?
I remember B Who I Want 2 B, What I Did for Love, Grotesque and REVOLUTION. Checkmate had 4 new collaborations, a previous unreleased collab with VERBAL in a WANT ME, WANT ME remix and has 14 tracks, so, would she release at least 10 new collaborations to promote the new album?
not counting I'm Not Yours because I don't think she would include that.
Higher was the only one that didn't get lost, it's one of her best songs overall in the recent history. Ningyo is a mess. Rafi better stan for The God Star, I "purchased" E-Gurls' (and Flower) discography yesterday.

I'd like all new collabs so I haven't thought about it. But if it's the case, I think she'll include I'm Not Yours unless Jolin is against it (Crystal wouldn't mind extra promo).
