Rihanna, "Needed Me"
Quote:
As she holds at No. 6 with her former nine-week Hot 100 No. 1 "Work," featuring Drake, and debuts at No. 9 as featured on Harris' "This," Rihanna roars 22-13 with "Needed Me" (like "Work," from her album Anti). It holds at No. 5 on Streaming Songs (16.8 million U.S. streams, up 3 percent, in the week ending May 5, according to Nielsen Music) and surges by 36 percent to 23 million in airplay audience.
|
Ariana Grande, "Dangerous Woman"
Quote:
After debuting on the Hot 100 at No. 10 seven weeks ago, its peak so far (and making Grande the first artist to debut in the top 10 with the first single from three career-opening studio LPs), the song rebounds 21-18. On the Pop Songs radio airplay chart, it rises 11-10 to become her sixth top 10 on the tally. She notched her first five from her last album, My Everything, including the No. 1 lead single "Problem" (featuring Iggy Azalea), for two weeks in July 2014. Grande's Dangerous Woman album arrives May 20.
|
Ghost Town DJs, "My Boo"
Quote:
As previously reported, 20 years after Ghost Town DJs hit with "My Boo," the hip-hop group returns to the chart powered by increased streams and downloads. The comeback stems from a viral meme called the running man challenge, soundtracked by the song. The meme was initially sparked by videos shot by Kevin Vincent and Jeremiah Hall, two high school students from New Jersey. "My Boo" re-enters the Hot 100 at No. 29, besting its previous peak of No. 31 (achieved on the Oct. 12, 1996 chart).
|
Zedd & Kesha, "True Colors"
Quote:
The collab enters the Hot 100 at No. 74, led by its No. 14 start on the Digital Songs sales chart (52,000 sold in its first week). Kesha makes her first Hot 100 visit since her featured turn on Pitbull's "Timber," which reigned for three weeks in early 2014. The "Colors" duet is an update of Zedd's solo version from his 2015 album of the same name. Kesha first performed the song with Zedd after he introduced her for a surprise performance at Coachella April 17. Her appearance marked her first on stage since a judge denied her request in February for a preliminary injunction that would allow her to record without Dr. Luke (Lukasz Gottwald)
|
Prince
Quote:
It's worth noting that all eight songs by Prince on the Hot 100 last week depart the chart. The highest of those titles last week, Prince and the Revolution's "Purple Rain," falls off from No. 4 (with catalog songs that have returned to the Hot 100 due to notable activity removed once falling below No. 50). The track by the late legend, who died April 21, drops from No. 1 to No. 19 on Digital Songs, down by 85 percent to 42,000 sold.

But it clearly could have gone #1 if it peaked at #2?
Wish Billboard would do an article about Can't Stop the Feeling!

agreed but idk i feel like 2013 was refreshed by ARTPOP/PRISM/Bangerz punch even though those albums were not necessary good. i mean before it, 2013 had songs like Can't Hold Us, when i was your man and just give me a reason hit #1. those songs wouldn't have hit top 3 in a stronger market. then Blurred Lines dominated and destroyed literally all momentum on the chart. There was for example one week in which there was not a single position change in the top 10. After 11 August we immediately got better.

Lets look back at the predictions for last week
Name | Correctness | Correct songs (top 20) | Total number of positions off | FCKNAmbrosia | 72% | 10 | 26 | simmnfierzig | 68.5% | 9 | 30 | Artpop | 66% | 11 | 41 |
Correctness is based on a little formula I invented. It's 100% - incorrect songs * 1.5% - number positions off * 0.5%. The numbers are totally random, but make sense to me.
Another very hard week to predict. Great job everyone

...Why? My memory was that it was really stacked towards the end, but most of them fell short of expectations in a big way
For music overall:
2016 > 2012 > 2010 > 2013 > 2015 > 2011 > 2014

Get Lucky, Treasure, Can't Hold Us, Blurred Lines, Just Give Me A Reason, We Can't Stop, Clarity, Radioactive, Hold On We're Going Home, Mirrors, Safe & Sound, Try... all 9/10s or 10/10s in my book. And I could have listed way more.
There's no other year that comes close re: songs that I love.

2013 was amazing imo. Blurred Lines was one of the most dramatic hits ever seen in so many ways.

It' sad Mirrors peaked at #2. Definitely deserved the top spot.

Mirrors was a very airplay-driven hit. The song topped 150 million on BB's HRS for multiple weeks, but the streaming and sales didn't ever really catchmatch up. Mirrors benefitted from getting AC and Hot AC airplay, which JT hadn't had much of before. I'm no fan of JT, but I'll agree Mirrors is a good song. However, there were legitimate reasons it fell short of the top, and by a fairly large margin.

I don't see how CSTF won't reach #1 this coming week, unless this was the radio deal of music history and it starts shedding a ton of airplay through rolling. Hello only had a one-day deal and caught back up in less than two days. I guess we'll see what happens to CSTF Friday and Saturday at airplay.
