The labels don't even care anymore, especially because you have to pay RIAA to get the certification official. Most don't even bother nowadays. I'd rather stick to nielsen numbers
How could RIAA lose their credibility when they only doing their job ?
They include streaming in the equation because it’s becoming so huge they can’t ignore it. That would be dumb. Plus, they include shipments as they always have been.
As for the ANTI case:
- 1M were bought by Samsung, so they were SHIPPED = platinum
- 800k or so sales + streaming
If you add the albums that were SHIPPED by the label but not bought yet, you have that second platinum certification.
The 1M by Samsung were SHIPPED, so RIAA counted those. They were not SOLD, so Billboard didn’t count those. It’s quite simple actually.
You can say what you want about Rihanna's strategy, but RIAA is doing things right.
counting singles streams for albums and then inventing a sales number out of it, is pretty much the end of the music industry as an entity that tries to measure success and popularity.
BB, RIAA, IFPI and the likes should stop comparing new artist to old artist as if their accomplishments came about under the same market tabulations. It's embarrassing.. but of course millennials will use these receipts in order to push their faves. They simply dont know better.
I don't want to call young people dumb, but they really aren't that smart, i believe.

I see this topic is only a problem when it's Rih..
Get over it, pounding your keys on a forum isn't going to change a thing.
RIAA is just doing their job by moving on with the times, just like Billboard.
The business is changing and you will have to deal with it.
