Round 1 - An Interest in Fashion is Crucial
Part II: The True Essence of Fashion
Godfrey Gao
For my male model, I decided to choose Godfrey Gao. I had a difficult time choosing a male model because I had so many that I liked: Pietro Boselli, Ollie Edwards, Noah Mills, just to name a few. Ultimately, however, I chose Godfrey Gao because I feel as though Asians get underrepresented in the fashion industry. I think he's the embodiment of fashion because he exemplifies how fashion doesn't discriminate: anyone can get into fashion as long as you have style. Godfrey Gao helps showcase the diversity and beauty of fashion. After all, it's no coincidence that his name is Godfrey.

Zendaya
For my female model I decided to go with Zendaya. I've always found her to be a very talented individual since she was on Disney Channel and I'm so proud of her entering the modeling industry! I believe that she embodies fashion because, being a young model, she helps bring a new wave of style to the fashion industry. And, not only does her fashion bring innovating new ideas to the industry, but her role as a model for young girls inspires them to enter the fashion industry just like her.
Here were my comments...

Your formatting and descriptions were spot on, but you were only supposed to choose one male and one female image. Be sure to read and follow the rules closely. With that said, I do think you did a good job.

You placed 8th in the first round (out of 11) because you submitted more images than asked for in the challenge guidelines. Still, your entry was well formatted and carried you through to live another day.
Round 2 - Who is that sad little person?
Singer: Ashley Tisdale

Short Biography:
Ashley Tisdale was born on July 2, 1985. She began her career in show business at three and sang for Bill Clinton when she was twelve. She was discovered by her manager in a New Jersey Mall and was then sent to audition for countless commercials. Eventually, she found a career in TV and film, becoming most known for her works in High School Musical and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. Afterwards, she pursued a career in music, releasing her first album, Headstrong, in 2007, and her second album, Guilty Pleasure, in 2009.
Highest Peaking Single: "He Said She Said"
Ashley's highest peaking single, "He Said She Said," peaked at #58 on the Hot 100. I believe that it performed well commercially compared to her other work because of its R&B influences, which make it stand out among her other songs in her discography. In addition, I felt that part of the song's success came from its risk and darker themes, since it alludes to a hookup despite the fact that Ashley was still part of Disney Channel when the song was released.
Why she's never gotten a top ten hit and how she could get one:
I feel like the reason why Ashley never got a top ten hit is because she never got enough momentum to be successful to begin with. She wasn't in the same label as her other Disney girls, and her poorly-managed label promoted "He Said She Said" along with one other song before Headstrong was released. Ultimately, "He Said She Said" was snubbed because it was deemed too inappropriate and was only re-released eight months later. Then her label forced her to make Guilty Pleasures a pop rock album instead of the R&B and dance pop genre that her debut album was so famous for. Her only shot at getting a top ten hit really is to release another R&B song again. I feel that, with Disney Stars like Nick Jonas becoming popular again after a short hiatus, Ashley still has the chance to take the spotlight if she releases another album like Headstrong.

While not quite as succinct as some of the entries, the richness of the context provided is what won me over most. You gave good background on Ashley by including a bio and helped us understand how she got to where she ended up. What was missing most for me was more visually engaging formatting. I appreciated you including the embedded Spotify link.
I'd like to see you bring it more next round by being just a little more concise in your wording and by stepping up your formatting. You're moving on to the next round!

You placed third that round and your formatting went downhill from what you displayed in the first round, but the content was compelling enough for you to impress me. Did you keep it up in the later rounds?
Round 3 - Florals for spring? Groundbreaking...

I loved a few things about your entry. First and foremost, I thought the name was very compelling and evoked a curiosity about what the full line might look like. I also enjoyed the visuals you used (both the clothes and the ocean-scape). Your entry was the perfect package and its brilliant simplicity is what really won me over. In my eyes, the only thing that might have given you an extra edge was going with something a little more surprising and fresh. Never the less, well done!

You definitely stepped it up again this round!

The dress is absolutely stunning, the belt looks amazing, and those shoes... I'd have to say you came out on top for this challenge. Congratulations on making it through to the finale!

Round 5 - Fashion Week
Idea
The idea of this magazine came from the mod movement in the sixties. The mod subculture has always interested me, especially how it is one of many examples of how music at the time influences fashion. My concept is that the magazine was created during that time period and still continues today.
Purpose
The purpose of this magazine is to analyze how artists express themselves through music, fashion, etc. The mod subculture in itself was a way for people to express themselves, and so the magazine is inspired from that, giving an insight into how various forms of art such as music and fashion enable people to express themselves.

You did an outstanding job with your magazine cover! You also managed to describe your concept succinctly. It was surprising to me that both covers turned out so similar, but if I had to choose between the two images I'd have to say yours fit better as a magazine cover for me. I also enjoyed the name of the magazine, though I prefer Legend E's title. I also would have liked to see you use better fonts for the headlines on the cover, as they were a little hard to read given how busy the background was. Overall, your magazine cover would look right at home on a shelf with other magazines and definitely would catch my eye.

You performed quite solidly throughout the competition and your entries generally improved round after round. With that said, at this point it's still anybody's game... Will you be the winner of season one of ATRL Wears Prada? Find out Friday!
