Darling, you are stretching this a bit too far.... Achilles disagrees with you with his fair skin and red hair right from the bronze age as Alexander the Great and Augustus are waving at you with their golden locks and all the blonde, blue eyed and fair skinned Gauls Caesar described before slaughtering them are laughing their asses off and so on and on and on
Fair skinned people with light hair and eyes were not a rarity among European tribes even in late neolit and bronze age.

I was being a bit more general with my post. Traditionally the ancient Greeks and Romans were not portrayed as the Caucasian (Nordic) white we know, rather an olive tone (Mediterranean), similar to what modern Greeks and southern Italians display.

I never mentioned about the Middle Ages as being uncivilized. That period was divided into three parts to make such erroneous generalization. It was only the
Early Middle Ages that were a period of stagnation as it was when the germanic tribes of the north and other barbarians of the east were invading and rampaging across Europe and causing massive damage to the population, infrastracture and learning systems there, and the only educated people at the time were the Christian monks.
Every ancient society had varying degrees of civilizedness but civilized in this context denotes Europeanization or being acquainted with the Greek and Roman thought, and inculcated with Christian values. The civilization process of various barbarian tribes that had taken over Europe and even the Scandinavian people did not occur until the latter parts of the Middle Ages. It was only during this period that Europe recovered from the chaos of the Early Middle Ages and civilization began to progress.
