Why would you even compare Drake and Nicki? It's so much easier for the GP to digest Drake as the straight male RnB/Rapper hybrid that sings about love/sex/life.
I'm not saying Nicki's any more experimental but even if Drake never came out and Nicki had the same exact sound he has right now she still wouldn't be as successful.
The GP tends to buy based off of the perception they have of the artist. To them, Nicki's a lil thottie who's only talent is shaking it for the camera and the occasional feminist rant.
K-pop seems to adhere more to conventional western song structure, based on my experience.
Plus, K-pop is kind of more enjoyable.

Hrm. What's a good jumping off point (for either)?

I don't care about/respect pop music just enough to indulge in it within other cultures.
I respect it, yes, but when it comes to listening to music in a foreign language or music that is unintelligible
for the most part, I prefer subsets of electronic music or, like, Icelandic music...

This is true, Drake has a huge advantage of being a male alone. Nicki doing what she's done in her career is far more impressive since the world has never seen a female rapper do what Nicki has been able to do. Meanwhile Drake is just another male rapper who is having a huge peak like Nelly, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne and ect
Nicki has made dumb career choices though. She can still bounce a bit back. The Pinkprint really gave Nicki a chance to show the GP what she is best at, hip hop

I think GIrls Generation is a good place to start for kpop since they're basically the blueprint for what it is today. Gee, Run Devil Run, galaxy supernova, the boys etc
