Disney Channel orders pilot from Lizzie McGuire creator
Quote:
Disney Channel has given the green light to a single-camera comedy from Terri Minsky, creator of the channel’s first blockbuster original series Lizzie McGuire. Executive produced by Minsky and Michelle Manning (Disney Channel’s Adventures In Babysitting, Teen Beach 2), the untitled comedy pilot will star young actress Peyton Elizabeth Lee. Like Lizzie McGuire‘s Hilary Duff, Lee has just a couple of smaller credits to her résumé, so this could be a star-making role for her the way Lizzie was for Duff.
The story introduces Andi Marcus (Lee) as she’s about to celebrate her 13th birthday. She’s eager to have a little teenage fun and adventure — just a little — but that might never happen because her strict mother is doing everything in her power to keep Andi from turning out like her older sister, Bex. As a teenager, Bex dropped out of school, left home and now, in her late 20s, still doesn’t know what she wants out of life. But when Bex returns home and swears she is ready to get her life together, Andi’s life is turned upside down and she’s left questioning everything she’s ever known.
In addition to Lizzie McGuire, for which she was a WGA Award nominee, Minsky created ABC’s Less Than Perfect and The Geena Davis Show and most recently developed Finding Carter for MTV.
I remember seeing this girl in a couple of episodes of Shameless. She was good even though she only said a few words cause her character didn't speak english, but you felt bad for her, which speaks to her abilities as an actress.
This sounds way too intense for Disney. I hope it doesn't turn out like Lizzie McGuire since that was just a poorly made show even though I did like it back then. Slay at Disney having some kind of diversity though.
Sounds very good, I hope it gets picked up. They really need some new good shows on that network bc with the exception of Girl Meets World, all of their current shows are trash.
