A passenger in McGee's car said she had hit 113 mph on the Snapchat filter, they added. When the cars hit, the speed was 107 mph, according to the complaint. The speed limit was 55.

Maynard and his wife are now suing McGee and Snapchat to pay for the medical bills. Maynard spent five weeks in intensive care for severe traumatic brain injury treatments. He now needs a walker or wheelchair to get around and cannot work. He was an Uber driver at the time of the accident last year.

The lawsuit also alleges that Snapchat has been aware of previous accidents caused by using the app while driving at high speeds, and yet the company chose not to remove the speed filter.

Suing Snapchat doesn't make sense to me. It's not them that caused the accident, it was the stupid teen.

The speed filter is supposed to be for passengers or airplanes in my opinion. I never use it while driving.

I'm 27 years old and haven't even sent a text while driving. Don't be so stupid kids. Stay off your phones. If it's an emergency and/or an emotionally taxing conversation, pull over to the side of the road or park somewhere. It cannot be stressed enough.

People snapped while driving even before that filter though. They share the music they're listening to, the scenery they're viewing, etc. the speed filter was an addition for passengers.

There's even a very explicit message under the filter when you open it that says PLEASE DON'T SNAP AND DRIVE.

Take responsibility for yourself. You can't blame Snapchat for someone using a filter of theirs. You know what you're doing, if you need to be told not to snapchat and drive, do you really deserve your license?

The fact that we need warning labels on things so obvious like coffee, shampoo, etc etc. We should remove them all and weed out the idiots for a stronger species of human...
