I feel like people aren't fully reading my posts
I literally just said promo singles don't necessarily need to be unsuccessful to be promo singles. Who cares if the magnitude of the tie-in is big? Good for her, her promo singles are raking in the dough and getting her name out there again, basically the point of a promo single done right.
And I will concede that the term lead single can become muddled in the japanese music industry but basically all of Kworbs examples are irrelevant to that claim. The length of time between release of the "lead" single and the album have nothing to do with whether a song is considered as the lead or not. What ultimately matters is the labels/artists intention. And it's ridiculous to throw Sakura Nagashi in there cause no one would claim that's the lead single

. That's like bringing up Ellie Goulding's Lights in a conversation about the lead single of Halcyon just because it was 'technically' the first song to be released from the album when it's obviously Anything Could Happen and the fact that Lights is featured on the album is irrelevant
I also don't think radio play determines whether a single is considered a promo single or not.
