Has anyone here done it? You know how some people after college go and teach English in another country, anywhere from China, Korea and Japan to places like Guatemala, Thailand, Europe, etc.

If you haven't would you be interested? What location would you choose?

Has anyone heard about the Peace Corps too? It's a US program where you go do volunteer abroad usually in developing countries in Africa and Eastern Europe after college for 2 years

I wouldn't mind teaching English abroad but I'd need to learn another language first

Then again you also don't get paid that much and I wouldn't want to get a job with little mobility It would be cool for a summer though.

I heard the Peace Corps is really hard to get into. But you have to be prepared for that. If you're a woman, be extra careful.

It's usually a short-term job though, like for a year or two before settling down with a real job in America. Some places don't require you to speak the local language and are seeking immersion.

Is it? I know someone going to Togo next year. It sounds very fulfilling but I've heard horror stories from PC too and you're contractually obliged to stay there 2 years

Like there's cases of women getting rapped. And if you're a non-white worker it'll be pretty hard as there is discrimination, and you won't get the same nice treatment that a white worker gets.

You should do it anyway, but be cautious. Its a life-changing experience.

One of my friend's is currently in Japan on the JET program (Japanese English Teaching) and she loves it. You are initially given 1 year contracts but can extend it to 3 years, and they cover the costs of your flight to Tokyo. You don't get to choose where in Japan you teach though, that's assigned. She got lucky, and was put in a junior high in Kyoto.

She isn't bilingual either. She barely speaks any Japanese.
