I would like to know what radio chart does the billboard use to build the HOT 100.

I mean, I always see, like pop airplay, urban, AAA, whatever... Is there a combined chart I can look to? Or is the pop one? Which is the most important?

Basically, Billboard uses the Hot 100 Airplay chart for the Hot 100, which is a chart that combines all the panels (e.g. pop & urban) and it's provided by BDS. The chart is determined by total Audience Impressions, measured in millions, which is how many people hear the song in a week. We don't have access to BDS so we don't know the exact audience numbers but mediabase are a company that also measure airplay and we have access to those numbers.

Currently here's the mediabase airplay

That has the total audience of the song next to it, the thing used for Hot 100, and the increase/decrease from yesterday to today in brackets.

Normally BDS & Mediabase have fairly similar numbers so you'll often find people adding mediabase numbers to the digital sales chart to try and predict what the Hot 100 will be.

IT was very clear THANK YOU!! But if I go to mediabase, I find a totally different chart! I see gaga at #1, Jay-z at #7, Rihanna at #16... it has noting to do with what you said.

That's just the Top 40 (pop) panel of airplay, whereas the Hot 100 Airplay chart combines all the panels such as urban (http://www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/insi...owyear=y&dpt=n) and rhythmic (http://www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/insi...owyear=y&dpt=n).

Also, those charts go by spins (number of times the song was played) rather than audience (number of listeners) which is what the Hot 100 Airplay uses.

Mediabase does offer a chart that goes by audience impressions (what I posted above) but you can only access that by having an account on mediabase.com and not many people have one. Luckily the chart gets posted here so we're able to keep track of airplay
