So this is my idea/concept/potential OP for a murder-mystery tournament I'm thinking of doing this summer. I'd love some feedback:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You wake up on a cruise ship with no idea how you got there. As you wander out of the cabins, you meet other passengers who appear to be in the same predicament as you. As much as you search, there are no means of communication with the outside world, nor an obvious route of escape leading up to higher levels of the ship. Needless to say, there is no exit to the ship in sight. A mysterious voice airs over the ship’s PA system with a grisly message:
“There is no help coming. If you wish to escape the ship, you have two options:”
1) Kill a fellow passenger without anyone else finding out you killed them
2) Survive until only two passengers remain
And with that… The killing game began.
How to Get Away with Murder
The Perfect Getaway!!
Welcome to How to Get Away With Murder, a tournament combining elements of Clue, The Mastermind, Mafia/Slasher, ATRL's Hunger Games, and Dangan Ronpa!
(Disclaimer: How To Get Away With Murder describes the game's objective, any affiliation with ABC's property is purely incidental.)
How do I win?
Get away with murder! ...Or remain alive until only two passengers remain. That's all there is to it. If you can successfully kill and evade the majority trial vote for elimination, you win the game. However, if the ship trial successfully pins you as the murderer, then you're eliminated.
The game is divided into two cycles of day and night, explained below:
Elements of Daily Life
Day Phase:
Whenever there is no murder committed, you are free to explore any available areas of the ship as you wish. You might discover trip-enhancing items in areas of the ship, so search carefully! You can’t remove them from rooms during this period, however. You may also chat with passengers both in the thread and privately. Occasional activities are planned that will offer trip-enhancing items! Action points limit your ability to visit areas during this period, so use them wisely.
Night Phase:
You may send in murder scenarios at this time. You may still explore the ship as you wish, in addition to being able to alter areas. You might discover trip-enhancing items in areas of the ship, so search carefully! These items are removable during this period, and might even replenish or change locations at night, what’s with that…? Communication with passengers privately is no longer possible unless both you and your communication partner both agree to meet in a specified area. Action points limit your ability to visit areas during this period, so use them wisely. You may also simply wait in your room until the next Day Phase arrives.
Be aware that altering areas leaves traces of disturbance behind!
When a murder occurs, the game shifts into the Deadly Life cycle, explained below.
Elements of Deadly Life
Planning a murder:
First, you must write a scenario and send it to me. Keep it realistic: because not only must you design the scenario, you have to be able to carry it out. You must have had the means to use any weapon or location mentioned in your scenario. Additionally, your victim must have been in the location where the murder occurred. How you get them in that location is all up to you! Excuses, trickery, lying, deducing that they’d be present anyways? It’s all up to you! You can even totally guess and hope you get lucky!
Elements of a scenario:
• Location
• Method (ie means of attack, weapon, etc.)
• Victim
If all these elements are present, your murder will be a success! You can add additional details such as moving the body, hiding and disposing of any traces you may have left, altering the room, etc.
(Disclaimer: Our ship is very interested in the field of air safety and environmental justice. As such, burning any bodies or other items by passengers is strictly prohibited.)
The investigation:
After a murder is committed, the investigation period commences. A public report of the cause of death and location of discovery will be made available to all players. Passengers may explore the available areas of the ship as the please, either by examining rooms, the victim’s body, or interrogating other passengers for alibis/eyewitness accounts, etc. These actions exhaust your action points, so use them wisely. Any evidence gathered individually is shared only with the player who discovered it, unlike the public reports. However, you’re still free to share any evidence you find with other players, privately or in the thread! Multiple people can discover the same piece of evidence.
The trial:
After investigation has taken its course, the ship trial will convene. Passengers will present any evidence they may have uncovered during the investigation phase. Players will announce accusations and may ask questions here as well. After arguments have gone on for a pre-determined amount of time, it will be time to vote for the passenger who you believe committed the crime. Post this vote in the thread, but before doing this you really should consider if the person pinned as the culprit had access to the crime scene or the means of attack. Or just go with your gut! It’s all up to you. Majority vote determines the party who gets punished.
The result:
If the trial correctly names the murderer, the murderer alone is eliminated, and the game continues to a regular Night Phase. If the wrong person is named, then the game ends with the true culprit crowned as the winner. Congratulations for getting away with murder!
Action Points
Each phase you'll be allocated [number TBD] action points. Moving from area to area and interrogating suspects are all actions that exhaust these points. When you run out of them, you can no longer carry out any actions.
Private Communication & The Middle-Man System
This game employs a "middle-man" system. If you wish to talk to other players privately, you will send a PM to the game host detailing your intended communication partner and include the intended message. The game host will then forward your message to your intended recipient, like the mail service!
This system is necessary so I can know who has what evidence and interrogation results, in addition to being aware of any collusion among players so that they can be properly acknowledged. The game runs on fair information: trying to circumvent this system makes the game one-sided, and I'll notice if you're breaking the rules. Be aware that you might get kicked from the game if you get caught sharing game-pertinent information outside of The Middle-Man System!
Rules
- The game functions on fair information: Refrain from editing or deleting posts
- If you are dead, you can no longer post in the thread until the game's conclusion. There will be a special PM set up where dead players can discuss the happenings of the game among themselves.
- One passenger may kill a maximum of two people
- If you wish to communicate privately with another player about the game, that message should be sent through the host, NOT directly to the recipient via PM. I will send the message to them personally.
- No game-influencing discussion outside of the thread or the game-related PMs I set up
- This game is an all-or-nothing, thought-intensive setup. Do NOT sign up if you feel you can't contribute to the best of your ability
- Have fun on your voyage!

I've watched this movie! I love elimination movies where a bunch of people get reduced to one survivor. The movie was pretty bad, but it was entertaining nonetheless. The ending was... interesting.

How would y'all feel about a photography game?
"ATRL's: The Shot" or ATRL's Next Top Photographer"?
The winner would receive a very nice prize.
There might also be prizes won during weekly challenges.
