I did both in college and I prefer retail only because customers don't complain as much, but you get way more working food service through tips.

In the long term both suck and I'm gladly doing neither now.

Retail, if you're an introvert then Food service is not for you.

Retail is easier, usually higher paying and will look better on your resume.

I worked in food service during high school and I would have a MELTDOWN if I ever had to go back.

The.****ing.people.made.me.want.to.fight.everyday I do not recommend it at all if you are NOT a people person like myself.
