I lowkey feel like sales have been dismal. I know they're trying to aim for quality vs quantity but 2 expansions and like 3? game packs in almost two years is not acceptable. I guarantee if TS4 was selling like hot cakes they'd have at least 4 out by now.
We still need a Seasons, Pets, Vacation, and College expansion and at this rate we won't get TS5 until 2020/21.

EA have said The Sims 4 is their most profitable game in their 2016 Financial Report. So, they can't be that bad

The last time they said that was during The Sims 2.
For the record, the reason why The Sims 3 got so many packs so quickly is because nothing was taking off. The base game was front loaded selling 3 million in the first 3 months and 5 million over 6 years. So the constant DLC was EA trying to find a DLC pack that would actually boost sales.
The Sims 3 sold 10 million on all platforms after 6 years, and that includes Mobile, Smartphone, DS, 3DS, Wii, PS3 and 360. Both the 360 and PS3 version sold 3 million combined, which leaves about 2 million for the rest.
It's pretty much why The Sims 4 launched with a smaller budget, EA tried investing into TS3 and it produced dismal returns.
We also know The Sims 4 has roughly sold 2.5 million physical units, and most people buy digital. So it's doing pretty good, enough for EA to slow down the packs back to The Sims 2 days where it was 6 months between EP's and random DLC Inbetween. But not enough for EA to rush to The Sims 5.

Their silence recently has been weird. Before this the release schedule was perfect and we were getting some type of new pack every month. Wonder what happened.

The old CEO of Maxis left, and a new one took over who has halted the speed in which packs come out so they can be better than the mess they have been since 2010.
The silence factor is more EA's fault. They are also keeping Star Wars players mostly in the dark too.
The devs had to push to convince EA to at least let fans in on what is happening.
