A new book reveals that Diana's confidante Lady Elsa Bowke said Prince Charles became so close to Barbra Streisand that the princess 'would not have been surprised if
they had an affair'.
Game of Crowns, bestselling author Christopher Andersen's new study of Britain's most famous family, looks into the relationships and rivalries of Queen Elizabeth, Camilla Parker Bowles and Kate Middleton.
Prince Charles was so infatuated by the American star that Streisand joked she
might have 'been the first real Jewish princess', the book claims.
Prince Charles met Streisand, who is six years his senior, in 1974 on the set of Funny Lady, after he turned up at Columbia Studios in Hollywood in the hope of seeing her.
They shared a mug of coffee and a 20-minute conversation.
Charles later wrote: 'I still contend she has great sex appeal'.
The new book claims Streisand seemed 'nervous' and 'tight-lipped' during the encounter - but she allegedly joked afterwards that if she had not been so nervous of meeting him, she might have beaten Diana to be his wife - Page Six reports.
